Usually no longer than an hour, but I don’t work to a strict stopwatch — we shoot until you’re happy and we’ve got the looks we need. I’ve never had an actor leave the session unhappy or unsure how they’re going to choose: most actors leave with 500+ photos to pick from, across a real mix of outfits and looks. You can bring up to 4 outfit changes within the session, including jackets, hair changes and glasses, so there’s plenty of variety to choose between. I’ll guide you throughout the shoot, so you don’t need to know how to pose or what to do in front of the camera.

My actor headshot session is £180 (£140 for students). That covers the shoot, your full edited gallery and two Photoshop retouches, with no per-image unlocking fees. Any extra retouching after that is £20 per image, and most actors never need it. Prices around Liverpool vary a fair bit — some photographers charge a lower session fee and then charge per image on top, so it’s worth checking what you actually walk away with.

Yes. You get high-resolution files with no watermarks and no licence restrictions, so you can upload them to Spotlight, Mandy, IMDb, your agent’s books and your own site. If you need a particular crop or file size for a profile, just ask and I’ll sort it.

Bring two or three options in solid, simple colours. Avoid busy patterns and large logos — they pull attention away from your face. Think about the roles you’re going for and bring something that fits them. There’s a changing space at both locations.

Yes, and plenty of my clients haven’t. I direct the whole session, so you don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. Most people relax within the first few minutes — it’s the thing actors mention most often afterwards.

After your session, you’ll receive a full online gallery of every shot from the shoot. We go through them together (or you take your time at home) and shortlist your favourites based on what best reflects your casting type, personality and the roles you’re targeting. I’ll always give honest feedback on which images are working hardest for you before we move to editing.

Neither is objectively ‘better’ — it depends on the look you need. Natural light is warmer and softer, more candid and relaxed, and suits lifestyle-style headshots and contemporary casting types. Studio light is crisp, controlled and consistent, ideal for classic casting headshots and bold, dramatic casting looks. Get a good night’s sleep and stay hydrated in the 24 hours before your shoot. Bring 2-3 outfit options in solid, simple colours (avoid busy patterns or big logos), and keep make-up and grooming natural rather than heavy. Start with honest self-reflection on your features, age range, energy and how you naturally come across, then ask trusted friends, peers and teachers what impression you give before you even speak. Look at working actors with a similar essence and the archetypes they play – the hero, the mentor, the villain, the outlaw, the caregiver, the lover. The qualities that take no effort from you are your strongest casting assets.
