Product & Ecommerce Photography · Liverpool, Merseyside & the North West

Product photography is the one part of your marketing a customer actually judges before they buy. On a Shopify collection page, an Amazon listing or an Instagram grid, the photograph is the product – it is the only thing a buyer can zoom into, compare and trust.

Captured By Luke Media is a Liverpool product photography and ecommerce content studio working with brands that sell physical things: chocolate, skincare, cosmetics, jewellery, clothing, food and drink, and packaged goods. We shoot white-background packshots, lifestyle sets, flat lays and short-form product video, and we deliver them sized and named for the platforms you actually sell on.

Some clients come to us for a single product launch. Others book a shoot every month so their store and their social channels never run out of fresh imagery. Both start the same way – tell us what you sell and we will tell you exactly what we would shoot.

Why Professional Product Photography Increases Ecommerce Conversions

Online, your photography has to do the job that packaging, shop lighting and a sales assistant all do in a physical store.

A shopper cannot pick your product up, feel the weight of the box, check the finish of the metal or see how big it really is. Every one of those questions has to be answered by an image – and if it is not answered, the shopper either leaves or buys and then returns the item.

Three things quietly cost ecommerce brands money, and all three are photography problems.

01 — Doubt

Bad light makes good products look cheap

Badly lit phone images undersell what you have made, and a buyer who is unsure does not buy.

02 — Inconsistency

A collection page that will not line up

When every product sits at a different angle, scale and colour temperature, the whole store looks amateur even when the individual products are excellent.

03 — Returns

Colour that is not accurate costs you twice

Inaccurate colour, or a shot that gives no sense of scale, produces parcels coming back to you at your expense.

There is a platform dimension too. Amazon will suppress a listing whose main image is not on a pure white background, and will not enable zoom below 1000px on the longest side. Etsy thumbnails are cropped, so a photograph composed without that crop in mind loses its subject. Paid social creative is now the single biggest lever on your cost per acquisition – the same budget behind a strong product image and a weak one produces completely different numbers.

Professional product photography is not a vanity spend; it is the asset every other channel depends on.

Product Photography Services in Liverpool

Six ways we shoot product content. Open any one for the detail.

White Background & Packshot Photography

Clean, evenly lit packshots on a pure white background – the standard for ecommerce listings, marketplace requirements and comparison pages. Products are shot tethered so composition, exposure and colour are checked full-size as we go, and every item in a range is shot to the same angle, height and scale so your collection page looks like one coherent set rather than twenty separate uploads. Clipping paths and transparent PNG versions are available where you need the product to sit on a coloured section of your site.

Lifestyle Product Photography

Products photographed in context – held, worn, used, styled on a surface or placed in a real setting. Lifestyle imagery answers the questions a packshot cannot: how big is it, who is it for, what does it look like in a real kitchen, bathroom or on a real person. These are the images that carry your social feed, your homepage banners and your paid ads, and they are the reason two brands selling an identical product can command very different prices.

Flat Lay & Styled Product Photography

Overhead compositions built from your product, its packaging and supporting props – ingredients, fabrics, tools, seasonal styling. Flat lays are efficient: one carefully built set can produce a square listing image, a 4:5 Instagram crop and a 9:16 Reel frame in a single setup. They work particularly well for gifting ranges, beauty collections, food products and anything sold as a set.

Ghost Mannequin & Fashion Ecommerce Photography

Also called invisible mannequin or hollow man. Garments are shot on a mannequin and composited so the clothing keeps its three-dimensional shape while the mannequin disappears – giving you a clean, consistent, model-free product image with the inner neck and lining visible. It is faster and far cheaper than booking models for a full range, and it is the reason most established clothing stores have that uniform, catalogue-quality look across every listing.

Packaging Photography

For a lot of brands the packaging is the product. We shoot boxes, bottles, tubes, labels, sleeves and gift presentation with the lighting control needed to keep foils, embossing, gloss and metallics readable rather than blown out. Essential for launches, wholesale line sheets, press kits and unboxing content.

Creative Product Campaigns

Concept-led product imagery for a launch, a seasonal push or a rebrand – colour backdrops, hard light and shadow play, water and ice, levitation, textured surfaces, set builds. This is where a range stops looking like a catalogue and starts looking like a brand, and it is usually the work that earns the reshare rather than the scroll.

Ecommerce Photography by Product Type

Every category has its own trap. Find yours below.

Food & Drink Product Photography

Packaged food, drinks, confectionery and hospitality menus. Food is unforgiving: it changes on set within minutes, and the difference between appetising and unappetising is almost entirely lighting and timing. We shoot fresh dishes on-site at restaurants and cafes, and packaged food and drink products in the studio where we can control reflections in glass, cans and cellophane.

Cosmetics, Skincare & Beauty Product Photography

Glass droppers, acrylic, pumps, compacts and foil-stamped labels are among the hardest surfaces to light well, because every one of them reflects the room back at the camera. Beauty and skincare shoots need controlled reflections, precise colour on shade ranges, and swatch or texture shots to sit alongside the packshot. We shoot both the clean listing images and the styled bathroom-shelf lifestyle sets that beauty brands live on socially.

Jewellery Photography

The most technically demanding product category there is. Small, highly reflective, and judged entirely on sparkle, finish and detail. Jewellery shoots use macro work, focus stacking for front-to-back sharpness, and careful control of specular highlights so gold reads as gold and silver does not go grey. Delivered as clean white-background listing shots plus detail and on-model or on-bust images for social.

Fashion & Apparel Photography

Flat lay, ghost mannequin or on-model, depending on your budget and where the images need to work. For apparel, consistency across a range and accurate fabric colour matter more than anything else, because those two things drive your return rate. We shoot to a fixed framing and colour reference so a size guide, a colourway grid and a collection page all hold together.

Gifting, Homeware & Luxury Boxed Products

Gift sets, hampers, candles, ceramics and premium boxed ranges – where ribbon, texture, foil and presentation are the selling point. These ranges usually need three things: a clean listing shot, an open or in-use shot showing what is inside, and a seasonal styled set for Christmas, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s and wedding season. We plan them together so the whole year is covered from one or two shoot days.

Product Photography for Shopify, Amazon and Etsy Sellers

Every marketplace has its own image rules, and most of the listings that quietly underperform are breaking one of them. We shoot and export to spec, so you are not resizing files at midnight before a launch.

Platform Main image rule Recommended size Best crop
Shopify Consistent background and framing across the range 2048 x 2048 px Square 1:1
Amazon Pure white (RGB 255,255,255), product filling around 85% of the frame, no props, text or logos 1600 px+ on the longest side (1000 px minimum for zoom) Square 1:1
Etsy First image is the thumbnail and gets cropped – compose for it 2000 px on the shortest side Landscape 4:3 and square
eBay No borders, watermarks or added text 1600 px on the longest side for zoom Square 1:1
Instagram & TikTok Vertical wins reach; leave safe margins for captions and UI 1080 x 1350 px and 1080 x 1920 px 4:5 and 9:16

Shopify Product Photography

Shopify stores live or die on the collection page, where twenty products are seen side by side. That means a fixed camera height, a fixed product size within the frame and identical colour across the whole range – plus a second and third angle, a detail shot and a lifestyle image for each listing. We shoot ranges as a system, not as individual products, and deliver square masters with transparent PNG versions where your theme needs them.

Amazon-Ready Product Images

The main image has to be a true white background, with the product occupying roughly 85% of the frame and no props, packaging text overlays or logos. We supply that compliant hero shot, then the supporting gallery images Amazon actually converts on – scale references, detail crops, in-use lifestyle shots and infographic-ready plates your designer can add callouts to.

Etsy & Independent Seller Photography

Etsy buyers are shopping for something that feels handmade and considered, so pure clinical packshots often underperform styled, textured, natural-light-feeling images. The trap is the thumbnail crop, which cuts the first image down and loses anything composed too loosely. We shoot Etsy ranges with the crop planned in and give you a full set: hero, scale, detail, packaging and a styled gifting shot.

Packshot vs Lifestyle Photography – Which Do You Need?

This is the question we are asked most often, and the honest answer is that almost every brand needs both. They do completely different jobs.

Packshot Lifestyle
Job it does Shows exactly what arrives in the box Shows why someone should want it
Background White, grey or transparent Styled set, real location or model
Where it is used Listings, marketplaces, wholesale line sheets, PR Social, paid ads, homepage, email, packaging
Volume per shoot day High – many SKUs once the set is lit Lower – each set is built and styled individually
Shelf life Years, until the product changes Seasonal – refreshed regularly

The practical approach for most Liverpool brands we work with: shoot the packshot library once and properly, then top it up with lifestyle and social content on a rolling basis. That keeps your listings stable and your marketing fresh without paying to re-shoot the same products every quarter.

Product Video & Social Content for Instagram, TikTok and Reels

Photography and short-form video now come from the same shoot day, because the same set, the same lighting and the same product are already in front of the camera. Shooting them together is dramatically cheaper than booking two separate productions.

9:16

Short-Form Product Reels

Vertical edits built for Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts – hook in the first second, the product doing something in the next three, captions burned in for silent viewing. Ideal for launches, restocks, bundles and offers.

360°

Stop-Motion & Motion Packshots

Frame-by-frame stop-motion, 360-degree turntable spins and slow push-ins that turn a static product into motion. Motion packshots are among the highest-performing formats for paid product ads because they show finish, scale and detail in a way a still cannot, while still being short enough to loop.

Native

UGC-Style Product Content

Deliberately raw, handheld, native-feeling clips designed to look like a real customer filmed them rather than a studio – unboxings, hands-on demos, first impressions, get-ready-with-me formats. Shot properly for audio and lighting, but graded to feel unpolished, because that is what performs in-feed.

If what you actually need is a longer brand film, a founder interview or a promotional video for your homepage, that is a different service – see our business video production in Liverpool page instead. This page covers product-led stills and short-form product content.

Monthly Ecommerce & Product Content Packages

Most product brands do not have a one-off photography problem – they have a recurring one. New lines, restocks, seasonal pushes and a social feed that eats content faster than it can be made. We work three ways.

One-off

Product Launch Shoot

A single focused shoot around one product or a new range. Full packshot set, detail shots, a lifestyle set and vertical video cutdowns, all delivered ready for the launch date.

Best for Kickstarter launches, new collections and first-time store builds.

Full day

Content Day

A full day in the studio or at your premises covering as much of your range as we can shoot properly, producing a library of stills and clips that will carry your marketing for weeks.

Best for brands that need volume in one go.

Ongoing

Monthly Product Content Partner

A recurring shoot on a set schedule with an agreed deliverable count each month, planned around your launches and your marketing calendar.

Best for growing ecommerce brands and hospitality venues that post constantly and do not want to hire in-house.

We quote every shoot individually rather than selling from a fixed price list, because photographing forty identical bottles and photographing four styled gift sets are completely different days of work. Send us a product list and a rough idea of where the images need to be used, and you will get a clear, itemised figure back – not a range.

Studio vs On-Location Product Shoots

We work both ways, and the right answer depends entirely on the product.

In the studio

Total control and consistency

Studio suits anything that needs absolute consistency and control: white-background listing images, jewellery, cosmetics, glassware, apparel and any range where every SKU must match.

Our studio is in Liverpool city centre at 1 Maryland Street, a few minutes from Liverpool Central, Bold Street and the Ropewalks – easy to drop products at, and easy to attend if you want to art-direct on the day. You are welcome to send products in advance and leave us to it, or come along and approve shots on screen as we shoot.

On location

Where the product lives

On location suits anything that loses meaning away from its setting: fresh food and plated dishes at your restaurant, drinks at the bar they are served at, products in your workshop or on your shop floor, and anything too large or too perishable to travel.

We bring the same lighting, backgrounds and support gear to you, and we work around service hours so a hospitality shoot does not cost you a shift.

Retouching, Colour Accuracy and File Delivery

The shoot is only half of it. What separates professional product imagery from an expensive-looking mistake is what happens afterwards.

Colour

Accurate to the product, not the lighting

Colour accuracy matters more in product photography than in any other discipline, because your customer is buying the colour they see. We shoot tethered with a colour reference in the first frame of every setup, so the pink of a lipstick, the green of a gift box or the exact shade of a knitted jumper is corrected to what it truly is. That is a direct lever on your return rate.

Retouching

Distractions removed, product untouched

Dust, fingerprints, scratches and stray threads, background cleanup to a true white, reflection and shadow work, straightening and alignment across a range, and clipping paths where you need the product cut out. The line we hold is simple: we remove distractions, we do not change the product. If a customer would be surprised when they open the box, the retouch has gone too far.

Delivery

Named and sized for where they are going

High-resolution JPEGs in sRGB for print and press, web-optimised versions ready to upload, transparent PNGs where required, and platform crops at 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16. Files are named by SKU or product name rather than camera numbers, so uploading a range to your store is a drag-and-drop job instead of an afternoon. Video is supplied in vertical and square, with captions where needed.

How a Liverpool Product Shoot Works

  1. Tell us what you sell

A product list, your website and a rough idea of where the images will be used is enough to start. We will tell you what we would shoot and what it costs.

  2. Shot list and styling plan

Before anything is booked we agree the exact shots – angles per SKU, which products get lifestyle sets, which get video, what props or surfaces are needed and what you need to supply.

  3. The shoot

In our Liverpool studio or at your premises. Shot tethered, checked full-size as we go, with a colour reference in every setup. You can attend and approve on screen, or send the products and leave it with us.

  4. Edit and retouch

Selection, colour correction to the reference, cleanup, background work and platform crops.

  5. Delivery and revisions

Files delivered by download link, named and sized for where they are going, with a round of revisions included so anything you want adjusted gets adjusted.

Liverpool Product Photography Case Studies

Three recent briefs, and what each one actually needed.

Raphia Chocolates – Luxury Confectionery & Gifting Range

A premium boxed chocolate range with ribbon, foil and printed sleeve detail across multiple colourways and box formats. The brief needed two things at once: clean, consistent white-background images so every box in the range sits identically on a listing page, and warmer styled sets showing the boxes open, filled and presented for gifting. We shot the full range to a fixed framing so the collection reads as one family, then built styled flat lays and pedestal sets for seasonal and social use, plus open-box shots that answer the question every gift buyer asks – what does it actually look like inside.

Akshaya Indian Restaurant – Food, Menu & Venue Photography

On-location hospitality shoot covering plated dishes, shared table settings and the dining room itself. Food was shot to order and photographed within minutes of leaving the kitchen, because tandoori char, fresh herbs and steam all have a very short window before they stop looking appetising. Deliverables covered menu and website imagery, square and vertical crops for social, and interior shots for listings and Google Business Profile – shot around service so the kitchen kept running.

Lash Play UK & ID Clinica – Beauty and Skincare Product Content

Two beauty-sector brands with the same core challenge: small, reflective, precisely branded packaging that has to look premium at thumbnail size. Both ranges were shot in-studio on clean backgrounds for listing use, with tight detail crops for texture and branding, and styled sets for Instagram. Careful control of reflections and highlight placement keeps acrylic, gloss and printed labels legible rather than washed out – the detail that separates a beauty product that looks clinical from one that looks cheap.

We have also produced product and menu content for Everyman Cinema, including drinks and cocktail photography for menu and promotional use. Ask and we will send the full set most relevant to your product category rather than a generic portfolio.

Product photography is a trust purchase – you are handing over the visual identity of something you have spent years building. If you would like to speak to a client we have worked with before committing to a shoot, just ask and we will put you in touch.

Product Photography Across Liverpool, Merseyside & the North West

Our studio sits in Liverpool city centre at 1 Maryland Street, L1 9DE – walkable from Liverpool Central, Bold Street, the Ropewalks and the Georgian Quarter, and a short drive from the Baltic Triangle where a lot of the city’s independent product brands are based.

Products can be dropped off, couriered or shot with you in attendance. Liverpool has a genuinely strong independent product scene – food and drink producers, beauty and skincare brands, streetwear and clothing labels, jewellers and gifting businesses – and that is the work this studio is built around.

Areas we cover for on-location product shoots

For on-location work we cover Liverpool and the wider Merseyside area including the Wirral, Birkenhead, Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Southport, St Helens, Huyton, Prescot, Widnes and Runcorn, and travel across the North West to Warrington, Chester, Wigan, Preston and Manchester.

Product Photography FAQs

How much does product photography cost in Liverpool?

Every shoot is quoted individually rather than sold from a fixed price list, because the number of products, the style and the amount of styling involved change the day completely. A straightforward white-background shoot of a dozen similar items is a very different job to four styled lifestyle sets. Send a product list and a note on where the images will be used and you will get an itemised quote back.

How many products can you photograph in one day?

It depends entirely on the type of shot. Once a white-background set is lit, similar products can be shot at volume in a single day. Styled lifestyle sets, food and jewellery are much slower because each shot is built individually. We will confirm a realistic number for your specific products before you book, rather than promising a figure we cannot hit.

Do I need to send my products in advance?

Not necessarily. You can drop products at the Liverpool studio, courier them ahead of the shoot, or bring them on the day and art-direct with us. For larger ranges it usually helps to have everything with us in advance so we can plan the set order and shoot efficiently.

Do you shoot pure white background images for Amazon?

Yes. Amazon requires the main listing image to be on a pure white background (RGB 255,255,255) with the product filling roughly 85% of the frame and no props, logos or added text. We shoot and export compliant hero images, plus the supporting gallery shots – detail, scale and lifestyle – that do the actual converting further down the listing.

Can you photograph food and drink products?

Yes. We shoot both packaged food and drink in the studio and fresh, plated dishes on-site at restaurants, cafes and bars across Liverpool. Fresh food is shot immediately after it leaves the kitchen and we work around service hours so it does not disrupt a shift.

Do you offer ghost mannequin photography for clothing?

Yes. Garments are shot on a mannequin and composited so the clothing holds its shape while the mannequin is removed, giving a clean, consistent, model-free image with the inner neck visible. It is the most cost-effective way to photograph a full apparel range consistently.

What image sizes and file formats do you deliver?

High-resolution JPEGs in sRGB, web-optimised versions ready to upload, transparent PNGs where you need cut-outs, and platform crops at 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16. Files are named by product or SKU rather than camera numbers so bulk uploading to your store is straightforward.

Can you shoot video and photography on the same day?

Yes, and it is almost always the cheaper way to do it. The set is already built and lit, so capturing vertical product clips, turntable spins or stop-motion alongside the stills adds far less cost than booking a separate video shoot later.

Do you offer monthly product content packages?

Yes. Ongoing content is how most of our product clients work – a recurring shoot on a set schedule with an agreed number of stills and clips each month, planned around launches and your marketing calendar. One-off launch shoots and single content days are equally welcome.

Do you travel outside Liverpool?

Yes. We regularly shoot across Merseyside and the North West, including the Wirral, Southport, St Helens, Warrington, Chester and Manchester, and we take on national work where the project justifies the travel.
