Search “how much do actor headshots cost” and you will find prices from under £100 to several hundred pounds. It is confusing, especially if these are your first headshots and you just want to know what is fair. The honest answer is that the headline price tells you very little until you know what comes with it.
I am a working actor as well as a photographer, so I have been on both sides of this. Here is why actor headshot prices vary, the extras to watch for, what any session should include, and exactly what you pay and get for my actor headshots in Liverpool.
The short version
- UK prices range widely, from under £100 to several hundred pounds.
- The real cost is what you walk away with: how many images, how many looks, and whether retouching is extra.
- My session is £180, or £140 if you are training as an actor, with the full edited gallery included.
- No watermarks and no per image fees. Your gallery is back within 72 hours.
1. Why actor headshot prices vary so much
Every photographer packages the same thing differently. One charges a low session fee and then sells each final image separately. Another includes a set number of retouched images. Another gives you the whole gallery. Add studio versus location, one look versus several, and London versus the rest of the country, and two quotes for “a headshot session” can mean very different days.
So the useful comparison is not the session fee on its own. It is the total you will actually pay for the images you will actually use, once retouching and any extra files are added.
2. The extras that change the real price
Per image fees
A cheap session can grow fast if every image you want to keep is charged on top.
Retouching
Check how many retouched images are included, and what each extra one costs.
Looks and outfits
One look suits a first headshot. Commercial and theatrical looks in one session save a second booking.
Watermarks and licences
Watermarked previews and restricted licences mean paying again to use your own photos.
Also worth checking: how long the session runs, whether you are directed throughout, how quickly the gallery comes back, and whether the files are sized for Spotlight’s headshot requirements.
3. What any actor headshot session should include
Whatever you pay and whoever you book, you should come away with:
- Direction. Someone who guides your angles, expressions and energy, so you do not have to guess.
- A real choice. Enough frames to pick shots that match your casting, not one image you have to live with.
- A likeness. Light, natural retouching that still looks like you on a normal day. Casting is checking your photo against the person who walks in.
- Usable files. High resolution, no watermarks, ready for Spotlight, Mandy, IMDb and your agent.
- Honest advice. Help choosing the shots that work hardest for the roles you are going for.

4. What actor headshots cost with me
I keep it simple: one price, the whole gallery.
| Session | Price | What is included |
|---|---|---|
| Actor headshot session | £180 | About an hour, studio or natural light, fully directed, up to four outfit changes, every frame batch edited and colour corrected, two polished Photoshop retouches, no watermarks, gallery back within 72 hours |
| Student session | £140 | The same session for anyone currently training as an actor, of any age |
| Extra retouching | £20 per image | Only if you want more than the two included. Most actors never need it |
Most actors leave with hundreds of photos to choose from across a real mix of looks. Every file is high resolution, yours to keep, with no licence limits and no expiry, so you can upload them to Spotlight, IMDb, your agent’s books and your socials.

5. Studio or natural light: does it change the price?
Not with me. Both are the same £180 session, and you can tell me which you prefer when you book.
Studio
- Controlled light and clean backdrops
- Bright and commercial or dark and dramatic in one session
- Nothing depends on the weather
- 1 Maryland Street, Liverpool city centre
Natural light
- Softer, more cinematic feel
- Real Liverpool depth behind you
- Shot in sheltered city centre tunnels, dry whatever the sky is doing
- Step free and wheelchair accessible
6. Is it worth paying for professional headshots?
Your headshot is usually the first thing a casting director sees, often before your credits or your showreel. On Spotlight it sits next to hundreds of others and has about a second to do its job. Spotlight’s own advice is that your photo should be natural and an accurate representation of how you look now.
Most actors update every one to two years, or sooner after a change of hair or look, so a good session earns its keep across a lot of submissions. My guide on how often actors should update headshots covers when it is time.
Questions actors ask
How much do actor headshots cost in the UK?
Prices range from under £100 to several hundred pounds, depending on how many images you get, how many looks, whether retouching is included and where you are in the country. Compare what you walk away with rather than the session fee alone.
How much are actor headshots in Liverpool with you?
My actor headshot session is £180, or £140 for anyone currently training as an actor. It covers the shoot, the full edited gallery and two Photoshop retouches, with no per image fees and no watermarks.
Do I have to pay extra for each photo?
Not with me. Every usable frame is edited and colour corrected and included in the price. Extra retouching beyond the two included images is £20 per image, and most actors never need it.
How quickly will I get my headshots?
Your full gallery is back within 72 hours of your shoot.
Are cheap headshots worth it?
They can be, if the price includes the images you need and they look like you. The risk is a low session fee with the images you actually want charged on top, or a rushed shoot with no direction. Check what is included before you book.
Is there a student discount for actor headshots?
Yes. The session is £140 for anyone currently training as an actor, of any age.
