1. Why actor headshot prices vary so much
Every photographer packages the same thing differently. One charges a low session fee and then sells each final image separately. Another includes a set number of retouched images. Another gives you the whole gallery. Add studio versus location, one look versus several, and London versus the rest of the country, and two quotes for “a headshot session” can mean very different days.
So the useful comparison is not the session fee on its own. It is the total you will actually pay for the images you will actually use, once retouching and any extra files are added.
2. The extras that change the real price

A cheap session can grow fast if every image you want to keep is charged on top.
Retouching
Check how many retouched images are included, and what each extra one costs.
Looks and outfits
One look suits a first headshot. Commercial and theatrical looks in one session save a second booking.
Watermarks and licences
Watermarked previews and restricted licences mean paying again to use your own photos.
Also worth checking: how long the session runs, whether you are directed throughout, how quickly the gallery comes back, and whether the files are sized for Spotlight’s headshot requirements.
3. What any actor headshot session should include
Whatever you pay and whoever you book, you should come away with:
- Direction. Someone who guides your angles, expressions and energy, so you do not have to guess.
- A real choice. Enough frames to pick shots that match your casting, not one image you have to live with.
- A likeness. Light, natural retouching that still looks like you on a normal day. Casting is checking your photo against the person who walks in.
- Usable files. High resolution, no watermarks, ready for Spotlight, Mandy, IMDb and your agent.
- Honest advice. Help choosing the shots that work hardest for the roles you are going for.

6. Is it worth paying for professional headshots?
Your headshot is usually the first thing a casting director sees, often before your credits or your showreel. On Spotlight it sits next to hundreds of others and has about a second to do its job. Spotlight’s own advice is that your photo should be natural and an accurate representation of how you look now.
