Bold, bright and close. TikTok Shop rewards products that look real and appealing on a phone.

TikTok Shop has become a serious sales channel for small brands, and it works differently from Amazon or your own website. People are not searching with their credit card out. They are scrolling, entertained, and a product catches their eye. Your images and videos need to look right in that setting and still meet TikTok’s listing rules.

I photograph and film products for brands in Liverpool. Here are the TikTok Shop product photo and video requirements, and what works once you are listed.

The short version

  • Main image: clean, light background, no text, borders or watermarks.
  • At least 600 by 600 pixels, but aim for 800 pixels or more.
  • Upload at least five images. Up to nine are supported.
  • AI generated product imagery needs to be labelled.
  • Short, real looking video is what sells on the platform.

TikTok Shop image requirements

Size

600 x 600 minimum, 800 x 800 or larger recommended

Count

At least 5 images, up to 9

Main image

Clean light background, product only

Avoid

Text, borders, watermarks, collages

Listings with fewer images are often rated lower in listing quality, so filling the slots matters. Guidance changes regularly, so check TikTok Shop’s Seller Center before you upload.

On TikTok, people buy what looks real. Polished is good. Fake looking is not.

A note on AI images

TikTok requires AI generated product imagery, such as AI models or invented scenes, to carry a visible label. Real photos of your actual product do not need one, and light edits like colour correction and background cleanup are fine. For most small brands, real photography simply builds more trust. Buyers want to see exactly what they will get.

The images to include

  • Main image: the product clean and centred on a light background.
  • In hand: scale and a human touch, which feels native to TikTok.
  • Lifestyle: the product being used or enjoyed.
  • Details: texture, ingredients, finish, what is in the box.
  • Options: each colour, flavour or size.

A clean main image and a lifestyle frame. Buyers want both.

Video is the real shop window

Most TikTok Shop sales start with a video, not a listing page. Short, vertical clips showing the product in use, unboxing, before and after or a quick demo are what stop people scrolling. They should feel native to the platform: close, fast and a bit personal, rather than a polished TV advert.

A good approach is one shoot that gives you clean listing photos and a batch of short vertical clips. My product video ideas for ecommerce guide has twelve formats that work well.

Reusing Amazon photos

You can reuse your main packshots, but TikTok audiences usually respond better to warmer, more real looking images than the strict white Amazon style. For the Amazon side, see Amazon and Shopify photo requirements.

Questions sellers ask

What size should TikTok Shop product images be?

At least 600 by 600 pixels, with 800 by 800 pixels or larger recommended so images look sharp on phones.

How many images should a TikTok Shop listing have?

At least five, and up to nine are supported. Listings with fewer images may score lower on listing quality.

Can I use AI images on TikTok Shop?

AI generated product imagery must carry a visible AI generated label. Real photos of your product with light editing do not need a label.

Do I need video for TikTok Shop?

It is not required for a listing, but short vertical videos are how most TikTok Shop sales start, so they are well worth having.
